FAQ
How does Overture comply with fee splitting rules?
Overture facilitates ethical fee splitting between referring and handling attorneys through technology that helps members comply with applicable fee-splitting rules.
To learn more about the state-by-state fee splitting rules, check out our Legal Resources.
What are the platform fee splits?
To simplify the process, every referral through the platform has the same fee split percentages.
Hourly / Flat Fee / Hybrid:
15% Referring Attorney
85% Handling Attorney
Contingency (Personal Injury):
35% Referring Attorney
65% Handling Attorney
Contingency (All Others):
25% Referring Attorney
75% Handling Attorney
This way, the focus is on finding the right attorney to assist your client, rather than spending time negotiating fee splits.
How are the necessary client disclosures handled?
We’ve built a simple billing tool on the platform that members can use to help facilitate the splitting of fees. When the client pays, we’ll split the referring and handling attorney’s fee direct to their respective bank accounts. This ensures transparency for all users and streamlines the fee splitting process.
Without the signed engagement package returned, the system will not move any funds.
How much does it cost to use the platform?
Overture funds the platform through a paid membership fee for attorneys who wish to receive referrals. Posting referrals and sharing in fee splits with other attorneys is free.
While Overture previously participated in fee splits, we determined that a membership-based model better serves our community. It allows attorneys to retain a larger share of their fees while enabling us to focus on building the strongest possible platform.
