FAQ

How does Overture comply with fee splitting rules?

Overture is a platform built by attorneys, for attorneys, to simplify referral sharing and fee splitting. It provides signing and billing tools to ensure accurate fee-splitting and proper use of all necessary language.

To learn more about the state-by-state fee splitting rules, check out our Legal Resources.

What are the platform fee splits?

To simplify the process, every referral through the platform has the same fee split percentages.

Hourly / Flat Fee / Hybrid:
15% Referring Attorney
85% Handling Attorney

Contingency (Personal Injury):
35% Referring Attorney
65% Handling Attorney

Contingency (All Others):
25% Referring Attorney
75% Handling Attorney

This way, the focus is on finding the right attorney to assist your client, rather than spending time negotiating fee splits.

How are the necessary client disclosures handled?

We’ve built e-sign on the platform, such that when you’re referred to a client through the system, you can upload your engagement agreement to send for signature. We’ll automatically attach the Overture addendum that contains the necessary client disclosures to allow for ethical fee splitting.

Without the signed engagement package returned, the system will not move any funds.

How does client billing work on Overture?

We’ve built a simple billing tool on the platform for matters that are referred through the platform, allowing the ability to send trust requests and invoices. When the client pays, we’ll split the referring and handling attorney’s fee direct to their respective bank accounts. This ensures transparency for all users and streamlines the fee splitting process.

How much does it cost to use the platform?

There’s no fee to join and share referrals with the attorney community on Overture. We charge a membership fee to take on work from other attorneys, and to take advantage of more advanced features on the platform.
